MetaLink to Download Openoffice.org for Puppy

Description of the difference between using pup and sfs:

    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=11802

    What is Openoffice?

Openoffice.org is a program to do typical office tasks such as word processing, calculations & spreadsheets, presentations and more. It can open most files made by Microsoft Office. Openoffice.org is not included in most versions of Puppy, because it can be quite big. It is included in the CommunityEdition. To have full functionality you will need 256Mb RAM and a recent Java Runtime Environment installed. The OpenOffice.org software code base is what Sun uses for its commercial office suite, StarOffice∞. Differences to MS Office∞. See the openoffice.org∞ website for more info about it.

How to add Openoffice SFS to Puppy

This is a full installation of OpenOffice-2.04 in a squashfile, created and tested in Puppy-2.13. Features a launcher installed in /usr/local/apps, xdg menu entries, and using the gtk interface so it matches the system theme and has more readable toolbar fonts.

Download OOo_213.sfs to /mnt/home (live cd) and reboot. Puppy should find it and merge it into the filesystem. If you want it on the desktop then rag /usr/local/apps/OpenOffice to the desktop. The launcher gives a menu if rightclicked, that will allow you to choose which component to open. Alternatively drag a file onto it and OpenOffice will open with that file loaded.

You may also find this forum post∞ helpful.

There are a few other ways to get the OpenOffice.org∞ , the installation that you choose depends on several factors such as: Do you want the latest version? Do you want the easiest way to install it? Do you need the full version?

To make openoffice ALWAYS use the Gnome interface - so it has larger fonts in the menus and dialogue boxes
Open the soffice executable as text - it will be somewhere like
    /usr/local/OOo-2.0/program
then scroll down to this line:
    # misc. environment variables
    and add this line:
    export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="gnome"

if using sfs find the soffice exectuable
    try running
    Code:
    which soffice
in a terminal, and it should tell you where the soffice exectuable is

How to add Openoffice PUP to Puppy

Info on Newer Versions∞ | Download Newer Version (2.04)∞ (see also below)

OpenOffice 2.03 installation takes a while, the whole installation needs 15 minutes on my computer (Pentium 700, 1 Gigabyte Ram). On my computer, nothing seems to happen for 3 minutes, but then it continues. :!: SO DO NOT CLICK LIKE CRAZY ON THE DOTPUP AGAIN AND AGAIN :!: After those 3 "quiet" minutes) you will see a progressbar, but it might not work very precisely.

    There are 2 Dotpups required.
The first will install 310 MB on a drive you like.

So if you have a Linux-partition mounted, you do not need to resize your pup001.
If your pup001 has less than 130 MB free space temporarily for the Dotpup-extraction, install my patch to use a mounted drive for temporary files:
    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=9091
Or resize your pup001 in the Puppy-controlpanel.
Or in Puppy 1, use a virtual harddisk on a Windows-drive:
    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7482

The second Dotpup has several files created especially for Puppy, to offer you this comfortable starter:

    image

    Download (106 MB):
    http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Office/OpenOffice-2.03/Dotpup/openoffice.org2.0.pup

    Download (300 kB):
    http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Office/OpenOffice-2.03/Dotpup/OpenOffice-2.03.pup

    Additional requirements:
    Download
    http://dotpups.de/dotpups/System_Utilities/getdir.pup

You can run it from the dotpups-menu then; xdg-menus are also supported.
By default, it uses the Gnome/Gtk-Theme, so it looks like a native Puppyprogram like Abiword.

I did not include the help, that will be additional 25 MB for each of the 3 supported languages.
    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=56540#56540
Also Java is not included, that might be required for some enhanced functions.
Get Java here if you need it:
    http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=5024

I made the Dotpups from this repository (intel-debs):
    ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/OOC680_m7/Build-1/
If you want to "add" your own language:
Download the huge 120 MB-pack of your country.
    Undeb it.
Copy all files in opt/openoffice.org2.0 to the corresponding folder from my pack(overwrite any existing ones, I used "cp -ax *").
That's all. Do NOT copy usr and etc, because I replaced symlinks with new scripts..
This method works better than adding the small but incomplete additional language-packs.

I did not check the dependencies, you might need additional dotpups. There certainly soon will protest someone ;)
