MCPup is an optimized Puppy for the Norhtec Microclient Sr also known as the eBox 4300.

The main feature of MCpup is that it really exploits the CX700M chipset for video rendering:

  • Direct Rendering is enabled using openchrome drivers & kernel modules (check "grep rendering /var/log/Xorg.0.log");
  • The media player is an optimized version of MPlayer for unichrome, with a loaded package of codecs;
    fullscreen video playing results in a very reasonable cpu usage (divx in 1024x768 consumes only 35% of CPU);
  • Firefox 3.01 is installed with the last Flash plugin and the MPlayer plugin; video embedded in wep pages
    are played through the MPlayer engine and so fully benefit from hardware acceleration;

Direct rendering allows many projects to run on the MC, like OpenGL games.
I will soon compile some of them and make the pets available on the MCPup website.

The other great advantage of MCPup is aMule, that is installed with all its great functionalities:
daemon, command line client, webserver, remote gui, statistics...and so on.
Everything is embedded to transform the Microclient in a good download station

Last but not least, i have updated a lot of packages to their latest version.

Feedback is welcome, as there still remain many things to improve.
