My bad. I looked at the lhpup page and saw a RAM requirement of 256 MB, and assumed that would be the case whichever version of Lighthouse I downloaded.

Sorry if you feel I wasted your time. I'll see if I can get a copy of the

[ Absolutely Off-Topic Area » Truly off-topic conversations ]

Have you actually tried it though?
I downloaded a MAME for DOS some years ago; it didn't work. The people on the forums couldn't figure out why it didn't work.

There's umpteen reasons why it ain't the same playing on an emu - maybe the controllers don't work - you don't play videogames with a keyboard, not for proper gaming. Last time I looked them up, ROMs for arcade PCBs didn't include sound........kinda ruins the gaming that does. And they weren't fullscreen and people that said they got it working, it *might* mess around with other functions on the computer.

(edit - also, the Raiden Fighters series are not regular jamma board games. I forget if the emulators do non-jammas, or claim to, but there is some kind of difference when it comes to emulating them.)

Also - one of the main attractions if you can afford an arcade cab and the PCBs is that - it's actually like the arcades! Home ports are never ever exactly the same. The best part about it getting a 360 release is that - finally, we can know for sure who is actually good at these games, high scores, and all that. <= I think that last one is the real reason some non-Japanese didn't want it released anyplace else.
You can't cheat on XBox live, if you try to it is really obvious you have cheated.

eg - someone that blabs they got this, that high score won't be able to do that on XBox. And it shows how many hours you have been playing too, so it's good for comparisons that way.

(if that game had been released here, I'd probably have gone broadband by now just so I could go online about that........there's a bunch of other things I want there, but it just feels sour now that they never brought out Raiden Fighters Aces.
When I get rich, I'll be buying the PCBs anyway.)

edit 2 - also, the ROMs don't do tate mode! I have a big widescreen that gets put onto its side for vert shooters. Makes the world of difference.

I tried 4.1alpha6 on a machine with an old Abit BP6 BX based motherboard with two celeron 533 cpus, 512 MB RAM. Booting hangs very early. After the "booting the kernel" message a new message saying "Disabling IRQ 11" appears. Then nothing happens, the IDE led remains ligting.
This board has an integrated HPT366 ATA 66 controller, and a 15GB Maxtor HDD connected to it. If I disconnect the hard disk, booting goes normally, and Puppy works fine. However, /etc/cpuinfo reports only one CPU.
The uniproc-IDE conservative version boots normally even if the HDD conencted to the HPT366 controller, and runs with a pretty decent speed. However, Pmount does not displays the 15 GB HDD connected to the HPT366.
I will try alpha 7, too.

Where to find libraries needed by Firefox

[ Goto page: 1, 2, 3 ][ House Training » Beginners Help ( Start Here) ]

I apologise for having taken so long to reply to your above question Ron as I've been under the weather here for the past few days.

Your question above was how FX 3.0.1 differed in its storage of bookmarks over FX 2.0+? Okie, let's see if I can do this right here. *sips coffee and thinks... lites cig and thinks some more...* Do any of us smell wood burning yet?

The latter version of Firefox 2.0+ kept its bookmarks, as you're already aware, in a file named "bookmarks.html", the same as SeaMonkey, the same as Netscape, the same as "Firebird & Phoenix" before Firefox, the same a Beonix (now there was a neat browser!), the same as K-Meleon (ditto!) ad infinitum. This has just "been the way" of Gecko-based browsers since their inception. It's nice and it's a system that's worked. The .HTML format was likewise nice because if you knew what you were doing you could likewise setup the file to serve as your "homepage". That made a great "jumping off point" for when you started up your browser! (And hence what Galeon and Epiphany do with their "bookmarks.xbel" file and call it "MyPortal".)

I'm not sure how closely you've followed Firefox in its development Ron? After v2.0 came out a place for online storage of a person's bookmarks became quite popular called "del.li.cious". I'm sure you've either heard or seen it on websites where you can mark a page to it? These places became quite popular and sprung up like wildfire practically overnight.

Many asked for an easier way that they could not only work with their Firefox bookmarks---but likewise upload them to these offsite storage "places", and hence the new term was coined: Instead of calling them "bookmarks" as we've always done (those of us raised on Mosaic/Netscape anyway), we'll now call them "places"!

A tonne of Firefox/SeaMonkey users baulked at the idea and the project was shelved. But all the software itself is still in place, in Firefox (openly), and SeaMonkey (in the coding), and so in v3.0+ the filename has been changed.

This doesn't mean, however, that you can't import your Firefox 2.0 and SeaMonkey bookmarks! You most certainly can---and very easily! Just as easily as if you were looking for Opera "bookmarks", or Konqueror's, etc.

What I was reffering to Ron was that I've always been able to run a snippet of coding in the pref.js file in FX 2.0+ which it would read and load the "bookmark.html" file that I have stored in a central location on my drive which all four distros read from. FX 3.0+ is unable to use my "bookmark.html" file because it needs this "places" file instead. So now I have to have Firefox 3.0+ (the first install) load up my original .HTML file, have it convert it to its own filename which it can read, and then the four browsers I have (one for each install) all must have that one line of coding to read from that one file---and I update THAT one once a month if I remember.

Makes life just a wee bit more complicated. But as the saying goes: "If you want to dance you must pay the fiddler."

So ends our lesson on Firefox for today. Anyone got any ice for my fingers?

How to config an existing HD Frugal installation to use a pup_save file from USB?[ House Training » Beginners Help ( Start Here) ]

Thanks, Beem & rcrsn51! That sounds like just what I need, and the advice about the flash drive writes is very sound.

I think what I'll do is add an extra GRUB menu item that duplicates the existing hda2 boot but adds pfix=ram, for making the copy to USB. When I move to another machine I boot off the USB stick directly, so that should be everything I need.

I really appreciate your assistance!
I have a EeePC 900 series with Windows XP on it. I tested Puppy 4.0.5 alpha on an SD Card and sound works. I would prefer to run TEENpup 2008 based on Puppy 2.14 on it, but the sound doesn't work.

Has anyone had any luck getting their sound working. Any ideas?
_________________
TEENpup "2008 Evolution" coming soon. Last release on Puppy 2 series base.

I think I may have to start calling you wacky bee!!

I don't think we have anywhere near created sufficient focussed energy to have this sort of effect

We may well, however, have limited awareness of what the potential energy is capable of doing, which is like having things go on outside your house, but, because you aren't by the window/door, and are behind a wall, you have 'limited what is going on!'

I don't think so, somehow

In my experience using mushrooms/herbal potions or meditation, may appear to have these effects, but all of that is occurring in the imaginary universe that evaporates, when the effect wears off

If i remember, you can use psubdir, but certain files have to exist in the root of the partition. I give you an answer in full when i get home today.
