the below is a sample of the configuration process for Puppy 1.0.7 a new user might go through to:

  1. Turn on Firewall with wizard
  2. Improve resolution and display using wizard
  3. Connect to the Internet with wizard
  4. Download packages of special interest with pupget or dotpup (.pet in development)

Change Screen Resolution

  • (options come up on start and I press enter until the last entry)
  • for xvesa I choose 0x011A and type it in - Xorg is now preferred click space to select one of
    the built in resolutions
  • Your resolution in xvesa may just be on screen - click it and see . . .

Internet Connection

from Start / Setup / Ethernet network wizard

  • Test
  • Configure
  • Auto-DHCP
This is the easiest (broadband router setup - I am blessed)
To set up your modem go to . . . Start / Network / Gkdial analog modem dialup or Xeznet

Test Mozilla

On the Mozilla menu

  • View

Rox filer

  • Options
  • Pinboard
  • No background
  • Save (apply other effects to check but always SAVE)

Pupget package manager
this example is for Xchat and configuring her - this allows instant advice and Puppy chat if someone is about

  • Start / setup / PupGet package manager
  • Install or remove packages (to get a list)
  • Click on Xchat, click on add, click on OK
  • From Start / Shutdown / Fvfm95 restart (this enables xchat on the menu under Internet)
  • Xchat is now active
  • Configure and set up Xchat IRC

Now use Dotpups to load programs

  • Click on Start / DotPup / Roxx Apps
  • Click on Dotpups download page
